If a death occurs 100 kilometers or more from the participant legal residence, GTAP arranges for the participant’s return home. GTAP, through its service provider APASI (American Pre-Arranged Services Inc.) manages all documentation, transportation, preparation and coordinates with the receiving funeral home.
No. GTAP is a standalone purchase. (Although preplanning is a great idea!)
No. If a death occurs, you call a toll-free number provided on a wallet card, and APASI (American Pre-Arranged Services Inc.) takes care of everything from that point forward. There are no out-of-pocket expenses. All services MUST be arranged by APASI. No claims for reimbursement will be accepted.
There are no age limits or health qualifications required to purchase this plan, it’s a simple, one-page application. If you purchase the plan while away from home, plan of assistance becomes effective upon your return.
The plan is valid if death occurs anywhere in the world; although, coverage cannot be guaranteed if participant dies in a location cited on the Government of Canada Travel Website for restricted travel for Canadian Citizens.
The main difference is that GTAP is a one-time purchase for a lifetime of coverage, not a yearly policy. Other travel insurance or benefit plans often include multiple conditions, pre-existing clauses, reimbursement requirements where you must pay up front and may have a coverage limit.
