Obituary

Barrie Gino Lorcini of London Ontario passed away peacefully in his home May 02, 2026 after a lengthy battle with cancer at the age of 71.

Born in Montreal Jan 13 1955, moved to London Ontario in 1969.

Beloved son to Marie & Gino Lorcini. He was eldest brother to Anna (Bruce), Nina, Greg (Eike).

Survived by the love of his life, his spouse Mary Godbout of 40 years and proud stepdad to Oliver (Amanda) Godbout & Nicole Fairweather/Godbout. Grandfather to Mason, Sydney, Emma, Ishmael, Immanuel and Hazel. Great Grandfather to Kaiya.

He was a cherished uncle to Julia, Erin and Dayna. His presence in their lives will be remembered with warmth and laughter.

To those who knew Barrie, he was respected for his love of art, music, photography. He was an avid camper and loved fishing. He shared many adventures with family and friends. Barrie was passionate about music. Blues, Jazz, Country, and Classical. He found religiosity and philosophy in music.

Barrie had a knack for leaving lasting impressions and many memories in his wake. He was an electric force. As soon as you think you had a handle on him, he would do something outlandish, silly or even magical. He was very creative, ambitious, open to experiments and self aware. He was very fashion conscious, even though his own wardrobe consisted of engineer striped overalls that he wore daily with pride.

We will remember Barrie with love and gratitude. A friend to many, with a generous spirit, remembered for his corney wisdom and warmth. Barrie was special. One of a kind. He was himself.

Quote from Bob Dillon "Well, I try to be just like I am / but everybody wants you to be just like them".

His spirit will live on in the stories and life experiences with the people whose lives he touched.

The family would like to express a heartfelt thanks to nurses, doctors and staff at the Verspeeten Cancer Center LHSC as well as Ontario Home Healthcare, St Elizabeth and VON. Their compassion and support meant more than words can express.

In keeping with Barries' wishes, there will not be public service. There will be a private celebration of life at The Tin Tent (our cottage) on Georgian Bay.

"A life well lived and forever in our memories"

I have been wrestling with this since I got the news that an old friend of 50 years had died.

I tried summarizing all the good and great times we shared but it ended up so long that it would have made sense only to me - from sharing the give dive for a year-and-a-half to strangely weird late night trips to unstick the Land Cruiser (yes, the Toyota with the Corvette engine) at Ipperwash.

There are so many memories and this process has been cathartic.

But most of all, I want to extend my heartfelt sympathy to Mary and the whole family. We shall all miss Barrie, but none more than them.

Rest in peace my old friend.

A great, many memories come to mind...
Barrie was, for many years, a very good pal.
A creator, an artist and a supporter of the arts, he was, I believe. the only curator of private art collections in London with an impressive client list which he served for many years.
He was, I'd say, 'a man of the people.'
We had a common interest in folk and blues music, he with more of a rock-a-billy orientation. He had a good ear.
I wish we could have had another lazy afternoon together.
Adios, amigo.

Barrie was an incredible brother- in- law. He was well versed in so many different areas of life. Conversations were plentiful and passionate. Although we would differ in opinions on certain subjects, I always admired how well read he was on them. An avid outdoorsman, a wide range and electic taste in music, and a really good photographer. He and his beloved partner Mary made such a fantastic couple! Barrie was fiercely independant and stubborn but always had an engaging smile and a welcoming hello. He did not have a mean bone in his body. I will miss our shared jokes, love of sports and general banter. Take good care my friend. Night Barrie.
