Obituary

Gordon "Gord" Badger Christie passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, at the age of 77.

Born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Gord made the journey across the pond to Canada in 1966. Beloved husband to Jo-Anne for 52 wonderful years, proud father to George (Leanna), and adoring grandfather to Corwin Bennett Badger.

He was a great baby brother, predeceased by his parents (James and Mary Ann “Nan”) as well as brothers James (Lillian) and Alexander Leslie "Les” Christie. He will be dearly remembered by his surviving siblings, Wilma McKenna (Brian) and Meston (Kathleen), as well as his dear brother-in-law Pat and sister-in-law Jackie Evans. Coming from a large family, Gord will also be fondly remembered by a myriad of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews both at home and overseas.

Gord was a man whose presence filled every room he entered—usually accompanied by a classic story or a tall tale. A lifelong fan of the Toronto Argonauts, a member of the Toronto Barbarians Rugby Club in the 1970s, and a familiar face in the aisles of Princess Auto, he gave 25+ years of hard work to General Motors (and the CAW).

Over the years, he shared his time and camaraderie with Scouts Canada—serving as a Cub leader with the 291st Agincourt as well as the 81st and 93rd Scouts in London—alongside his active involvement with Huff 'n' Puff, the Army, Navy & Air Force Veterans Club, and the Royal Canadian Legion.

An avid outdoor enthusiast, Gord had a lifelong passion for deer hunting in Alabama and Bancroft, chasing grouse in Temiskaming Shores, spending time fishing in Hay Bay or at his cottage on "the mighty Moira River," and hitting the links for a round of golf. He looked forward all year to his annual "Scouter's Weekend" in Buckhorn—planning meals and making arrangements for the next trip almost as soon as the current one ended. Truth be told, his actual success rate in hunting, fishing, and golf was marginal at best most of the time, but for Gord, it was never really about the score, the catch, or the game—it was about the fresh air, the quiet moments, the company and the memories made along the way.

Gord’s warmth, unwavering sense of humour, and legendary storytelling will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.

The Celebration of Life will at 427 (London) Wing RCAF (Royal Canadian Air Force) Association at 2155 Crumlin Side Road in London, Ontario N5V 3Z9 on Saturday, August 15th from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
